IC3 Computer Literacy Exam

The KCTCS Computer Literacy Exam is available for interested, qualified students. KCTCS uses Certiport's IC3 exam to determine your computer literacy, which is one of the requirements necessary for a KCTCS diploma or degree.

The IC3 exam consists of three tests in one package. To be fully certified, all three exams must be passed with a minimum of 75 percent. This applies to both the nationally-recognized IC3 certification and the KCTCS computer literacy competency. There are vouchers which must be purchased in order to complete the exam. Vouchers for the exam may be purchased at www.certiport.com.

You may take the exam twice within seven days. After that, you may take the test two more times in seven days for a total of four attempts. You must purchase vouchers (unless your initial vouchers included a retest) each time you retest. You are only required to retest the components that you did not pass. Refer to the Certiport website for information on certifications, vouchers, retests, and sample questions.

Students may choose to receive three credit hours for CIS 100 by successful completion of:

  • The IC3 exam and the KCTCS Database exam
  • The CIS 100 course

Student may choose to meet the requirements for computer literacy by completion of:

  • The IC3 Fast Track exam without the database component (transcript will show computer literacy met)
