KICCS Classes

CHOOSE THREE FANTASTIC NEW CLASSES EACH WEEK!
Each KICCS session lasts four days, Monday-Thursday. Choose three classes each week. Attend any number of weeks. Dates will be announced in the spring. Schedule includes orientation at 8 am on Monday, three classes customized for grade levels every day from 8:30 am to 12 pm, and graduation at 12 pm on Thursday.

DEEP DIVE!
Find out what makes your boat float! Work in teams to design, build, test and modify a Cartesian Diver, a floating toy invented by a French scientist. Use this design challenge to learn about buoyancy, density and gas laws.  Taught by Amy Porter. SC
 

SPIES LIKE US
James Bond and MacGyver are pretty cool and so are real world detectives! Uncover the history of investigators and learn real-life techniques to gather intelligence, solve crimes and accomplish missions. Taught by Brett Pritchett. LA • MA • SC • SS

WEATHER OR NOT!
Grab your raincoat and splash into the science of weather forecasting.  As a meteorologist, learn about different types of weather, create weather simulations, and test your knowledge against the professionals!  Taught by Paige Gillespie.  MA • SC

 

OPERATION IMAGINATION
Put your imagination to the test each day as you work with your teacher to create class projects from a box of mystery materials.  From phenomenal art projects to wacky science experiments, what will you invent today?  Taught by Amanda Baxter.  AR • MA

THAT'S THE TICKET!
Take a virtual trip to discover all seven continents and recreate historic landmarks.  Construct a South American zip line from the Amazon Rain Forest and build a Leaning Tower of Pisa from Italy as you explore the world.  Taught by Courtney Bourne.  SC • SS

  

PUZZLE MASTERS
Use your brain to untwist mind-bending puzzles!  Learn magic tricks, study optical illusions, and run obstacle courses.  Solve and create art, jigsaw, manipulative and mystery puzzles.  Bend your brain!  Taught by Celena Lewis.  AR • LA • MA • SC

SPY SQUAD
Do you have what it takes to be an investigator? Use videos, laser measurements, fingerprints, and microscopes to examine clues and solve the mystery of the missing cookies on campus. Taught by Dr. Sheri Chapel, Angie Smith and Diane Thomas. MA • SC

    STORYBOOK STRUCTURES
Meet storybook characters who will inspire you to celebrate your talents! Led by their stories, build a sticky structure, lever launcher and genius gizmo. Discover fun math skills and create a chain reaction. Taught by Heather Moore. AR • LA • MA • SC 

WHAT’S BREWING?
Become a mad scientist! Mix and create experiments to watch, play with, and eat! From exploding foam to lava lamp bottles, use science to explain amazing chemical reactions that make things happen! Taught by Rusty Guzman. MA • SC

  THE GREAT PIONEER
Take a trip down the Oregon Trail and experience the life of a pioneer. Find out how early pioneers met the challenges of frontier life and build your community in the Wild West! Taught by Lauren Wade. AR • SC • SS

MATH CITY ARCHITECTS
Picture the tallest building you’ve ever seen. Have you ever wondered how it got there? Build an entire city full of skyscrapers using blueprints, measurements, formulas and your own creativity! Taught by Sydney Harper. MA • AR

Step backstage to experience acting fun! Play drama games and practice role-playing. Recite poems as a group or participate in reader’s theater. Gain confidence and have fun! Taught by Sherry Holloway and Celena Lewis. AR • LA

BUILD A BETTER BIRD NEST
Use your creative ingenuity to complete hands-on challenges! Make petal patterns, build a rainbow, construct a teepee, and build a better bird nest. Reveal science behind each project. Taught by Alicia Russell. MA • SC

     HEALTHY NUTS
Holy Guacamole! Did you know that an avocado has more potassium than a banana? Whip up some tasty and nutritious recipes and make your own cookbook. Find fun ways to get your heart pumping! Taught by Paige Gillespie. LA • MA • SC

AMAZING MAZES
Create something unique and fun! Use math and science skills to build your own multi-level super marble maze. Swap with your friends to see who can run your maze in the quickest time. Taught by Rusty Guzman. MA • SC

  SWIRL INTO ART
Combine artistry and science to create unique works of art! Experiment with water marbling and grow a beautiful crystal garden. Design a rangoli masterpiece inspired by Indian culture. Taught by Lauren Wade. AR • MA • SC • SS
THE SKY IS THE LIMIT
Have you always wanted to travel to space? Climb aboard your own rocket ship to explore the universe. Learn about space with fun activities at each stop and keep a record in your Space Explorer’s Logbook. Taught by Jennifer Jatczak. LA • MA • SC
  STORYTELLING IN A JAR
Are you a good storyteller? Do you like telling funny or scary stories? Practice brainstorming ideas and shaping them into a good story. Create story stones and story cubes to develop your skills. Taught by Sherry Holloway. AR • LA • SS • TH
