What is Phlebotomy for the Healthcare Worker?

As part of the initiative to best serve our students and our community, Phlebotomy for the Healthcare Worker courses are offered at the Hopkinsville campus each fall and spring semester. Students successfully completing all course requirements for PHB 170 and PHB 152 are locally certified in Phlebotomy for the Healthcare Worker for the Health Care Worker. Students earning a final grade of B or higher in PHB 170 and PHB 152 can choose to enroll in MAI 299, an additional course that includes clinical hours and requirements for eligibility to sit for national certification. Students electing to, and meeting the requirements to, take MAI 299 for national certification eligibility must enroll immediately upon completion of the local Phlebotomy for the Healthcare Worker certificate . The local Phlebotomy for the Healthcare Worker certificate can be obtained in one semester and can be completed as a stand-alone credential or as part of the Health Science Technology program, and financial aid may be available.

Additional Information

Students enrolled in MAI 299 have strict classroom and clinical attendance policies. In addition to the regular in-person meeting time, students must complete approximately 100 clinical hours OUTSIDE of class at a facility with whom HCC has a contractual agreement. The course instructor will work with students to schedule these clinical hours, and will only consider academic course schedules when assigning clinical time. There will be activities and meetings held outside the classroom and possibly at times other than scheduled class times.  These activities are mandatory and students must attend.
