CDL Program
Train for Your CDL in Just 4 Weeks!
Our Commercial Driver's License program is designed to prepare individuals with little or no commercial driving experience for an entry-level position in the trucking industry. Our focus is on developing safe, responsible drivers. This accelerated training program is provided by HCC's Workforce Solutions department in cooperation with members of the Kentucky Trucking Association.
Our CDL Program Includes ...
- CDL learner's permit and Class A endorsement preparation
- classroom, range and road instruction led by credentialed experienced trucking professionals using manual and automatic transmissions trucks
- 160 hours of training, 8 am-5 pm, Monday-Friday, for four weeks
- map reading, trip planning, and vehicle operation training
- DOT rules, regulations and log books instruction
- Class A road test administered by Kentucky State Police upon class completion
- certificate of completion and job placement assistance
HCC's all-inclusive program fee covers instruction, DOT physical and drug tests, and CDL permit and license fees including the charges for up to three road skills tests. Course content also includes information to prepare for the Hazardous Materials Endorsement Knowledge test; however, students who are interested in earning that endorsement are responsible for scheduling the HazMat exam and paying applicable fees.
Classes start on the first Monday of each month unless otherwise announced. Road tests are administered by Kentucky State Police by appointment only after the four-week class is completed. Road tests are typically scheduled during the first week after the class ends; however each student's schedule will vary.
Earn a College Credential
Students will be enrolled in TRU100 and earn a Tractor Trailer Certificate from HCC upon successfully completing the program.
Program Requirements
Students must be able to read, write and speak English; be at least 18 years old for intrastate license or 21 years old for interstate license; meet Department of Transportation physical requirements; pass a DOT drug test; and have a valid driver's license.
Please note: Students with a driver's license from outside of Kentucky should plan to enroll at least 30 days before their class begins to minimize license transfer charges.
Payment and Refund Policy
The $4,000 tuition covers instruction, DOT physical and drug tests, and CDL permit and license fees including the charges for up to three road skills tests.
Tuition payment or payment arrangements must be made before class begins. Pay by cash, credit card or check payable to HCC.
Financial assistance may be available through Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act and Vocational Rehabilitation programs. HCC is approved for veterans and/or dependent/spouse of a veteran to receive Veterans Educational Benefits. Contact your local counselor for details.
Full refunds will be granted if the class is cancelled by HCC or the student officially withdraws before the first day of class. Partial refunds may be granted if requested in writing by the end of the second day of class or if the student does not pass DOT physical or drug test. No refunds will be granted if requested after the second day of class or if the student is dismissed for violating the class code of conduct. Non-attendance does not relieve the student of financial obligation or entitle the student to a refund. No refund will be made to a student whose course load is reduced as result of passing a special examination for credit.
