Important Changes To Student Loans Beginning July 1

Beginning July 1, 2010, KCTCS colleges will begin processing all student loans through the Federal Direct Loan Program (Direct).

The Health Care and Education Affordability Reconciliation Act of 2010, H.R. 4872, eliminates the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP), changing how we provide loans to our students. Participating in Direct Lending ensures that our students and parents will be able to continue to borrow funds to meet their educational needs. KCTCS colleges financial aid offices are dedicated to making a smooth transition from FFELP to Direct Lending.

Much of the functionality and benefits will be retained under the Direct Lending Program. Both current and new borrowers will need to sign a new promissory note and complete entrance counseling in order to receive additional loan funding after July 1 of this year.
