HCC's Summer Enrollment Up over 6% - New Record Set

Hopkinsville Community College (HCC) has experienced its ninth consecutive enrollment increase and set a new enrollment record for the summer term. HCCs enrollment was up 6.2 percent compared with the same time last year. The college had a headcount of 1,692 students taking classes from May to August, compared with 1,593 enrolled in summer 2010.

HCC on track for a record fall enrollment as well. To date, the colleges headcount is up 7.4 percent when compared to the same time in fall 2010. The traditional fall term started August 15, but students will continue to register for courses that have start dates in September and October. The final fall term headcount will not become official until November. The college has experienced incredible growth, and Fort Campbell particularly continues to expand, said HCC President Dr. James Selbe. We are excited about the growth of jobs in our community, and about the continued emphasis on education. Local leadership continues to strengthen the ties between education and jobs, and it is a win-win for all the citizens of the Pennyrile.

We are expecting to set another record this fall, stated Dr. Selbe. The college is unique in its relationship to Fort Campbell, and anticipates this relationship to develop and grow in proportion to our increased enrollment on that campus. It is a college priority to serve the men and women of the armed services, and their families, Dr. Selbe continued.

HCC is taking numerous actions to accommodate its rapidly growing population. More online courses are being offered, and additional full-time faculty and adjuncts instructors have been hired. HCC also constructed a new, 83-space parking lot that has been packed with vehicles since opening day.
