HCCs Summer Enrollment Up Over 27% - New Record Set
Hopkinsville Community College (HCC) has experienced its sixth consecutive enrollment increase and set a new enrollment record for the summer term. HCCs enrollment was up 27.2 percent compared with the same time last year. The college had a headcount of 1,593 students taking classes from May to August, compared with 1,252 enrolled in summer 2009.
HCC is currently experiencing a large increase in fall enrollment as well. To date, the colleges headcount is up 10.2 percent when compared to the same time in fall 2009. The traditional fall term started on August 16, but students will continue to register for courses that have start dates in September and October. The final fall term headcount will not become official until November. The college is busting at the seams, said HCC President Dr. Jim Selbe. HCCs enrollment has been on a steady climb for some time. We were up over 16 percent last fall, over 14 percent in the spring and over 27 percent this summer. We are expecting to set another record this fall.
HCC is taking numerous actions to accommodate its rapidly growing population. More online courses are being offered, and additional full-time faculty and adjuncts instructors have been hired. HCC also constructed a new, 83-space parking lot that has been packed with vehicles since opening day.
HCCs faculty and staff are working hard to ensure that all of the students needs are getting met, explained President Selbe. We have learned to be very efficient with both time and resources. HCC, along with our sister KCTCS institutions, are operating on less state appropriation dollars than we were in 1998 despite the influx of students.
