HCC To Host Chemical Engineering Degree Sessions In Christian And Todd Counties

Hopkinsville Community College (HCC) will host 2 informational meetings to recruit students for the new chemical engineering technology (CET) program. The associate of chemical engineering technology degree is a collaborative project between HCC and Austin Peay State University (APSU) in which students will participate in a 1+1 program to complete 33 credit hours at HCC, and then transfer to APSU to complete the remaining 30 credit hours.

The CET informational meetings will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, September 8 at HCCs Technology Center, room 210 and 5 p.m. Monday, September 13 at the Todd County High School cafeteria. The sessions are open to anyone who is interested in learning the details of the chemical engineering technology program.

The Kentucky Workforce Investment Board has made funding for the CET program possible through a $1.2 million State Energy Sector Partnership (SESP) grant that was awarded to HCC and APSU in July to establish training for emerging green occupations throughout western Kentucky. The grant will cover the cost of tuition, books and specialized tutoring service for students that are selected to participate in the CET degree program.

The SESP grant is provided with 100% federal funds under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, U.S. Department of Labor and through the Kentucky Education and Workforce Development Cabinet and the West Kentucky Workforce Investment Board.
