HCC Scheduled to Hold Start to Finish Constitution Reading to Celebrate the Documents 224th Birthday
College Welcomes Community Members to Take Part in the Read
Joining Philadelphias National Constitution Center in a national event, Hopkinsville
Community College will be a part of a national reading of the U.S. Constitution from
the first words of the Preamble, We the People to the 27th Amendment. HCC President
Jim Selbe will kick off the reading, joined by Hopkinsville Mayor Dan Kemp; Christian
County Judge Executive Steve Tribble; Angie Strader, PVA; CCPS Board Member Betsy
Glover; HCC faculty, staff and students.
The event will be held on Monday, September 19 in the clock tower area on the campus of Hopkinsville Community College, 720 North Drive, Hopkinsville, beginning at noon. The entire read will take approximately two hours with 100 readers being given very brief excerpts of the Constitution.
The reading is part of an effort organized by the National Constitution Center to increase the nations awareness of our founding document and history and to help schools and federal agencies fulfill the goals of a law passed in late 2004 requiring Constitutional education on Constitution Day, September 17.
Members of the public who wish to take part in this civic venture should e-mail Kristy Howell. The Constitution will also be available in a number of other languages for those who are more comfortable speaking languages other than English. Readings will be distributed first-come, first-served.
