HCC Foundation, Mike and Helen Cayce Announce New Scholarship
Mike and Helen Cayce of Hopkinsville recently funded a new scholarship in honor of Billie Lee Cayce, Mike Cayces late mother. The Cayces approached the Hopkinsville Community College Foundation with the idea of establishing a scholarship to honor the late Mrs. Cayce. With a passion and heart for the health and well-being of Christian County, demonstrated by their professional work in their practices in pharmacy and advanced registered nurse practice, the Cayces established a fund to support nurse education.Focused on the non-traditional student in HCCs nursing program, and with support from various members of their extended family, Cayce Mill Supply Company and AmerisourceBergen Services Corporation, the Cayces intend to advance the growth of this scholarship opportunity.
The first awards of the $500 scholarship were recently made to Erica Moyer of Oak Grove, Kentucky and Melissa Johnsa of Hopkinsville. All academic scholarship applications at HCC include student essays, and Ms. Moyer and Ms. Johnsa both wrote compelling arguments for their selection, according to Helen Cayce. Ms. Moyer wrote, I chose HCCs nursing program because of its great reputation and outstanding NCLEX pass rate. In this program, I feel Im constantly being challenged and kept on my toes.
Ms. Johnsas comments reflected those of her fellow student and awardee. The nursing program is my full time job. I take an enormous amount of pride in being a nursing student at HCC.
Yvette Eastham, Executive Director of the HCC Foundation noted that support of nursing and allied health programs at the local college continues to be a top priority. As we continue to look toward the future for HCC, we commend donors like the Cayces who have partnered with the Foundation for the educational and economic development of our community.
