HCC Foundation ends fiscal year on high note

Hopkinsville Community College Interim President Patrick Lake beamed as he related the end-of-year success of the colleges Foundation. According to figures from the college and the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS), the local foundation enjoyed its strongest giving in three years in the fourth quarter of this fiscal year, increasing gifts by an incredible 1249% over the same time last year.

Further, total gifts in FY 2012-2013 increased 74% over the previous fiscal year, and 109% over two years prior.

Lake thanked the local community for its continuing support of the college. It is clear to me as the interim president of this college that our local folks are highly supportive of the college, as indicated by their willingness of give, not only of their financial resources, but of their time.

As the academic year gears up at HCC, activities of the foundation will also increase. The board is planning for new and exciting additions to its two annual fund-raisers, the 28th Mike Foster Golf Scramble on Friday October 4 at Novadell and the 7th Annual Gala Scholarship Auction, Friday November 1 at the James E. Bruce Convention Center, said HCC Foundation Board President Jo Glover.

Private support of the college has become more and more critical as the resources of HCC have been stretched by continued state budget cuts, and we rely on these events to bolster funding for the academic year, Glover continued.

The HCC Foundation boards of directors have seen their assets grow to over $2.6 million dollars in the past five years, and stewardship for these gifts has become more important as various scholarship opportunities continue to develop for students across the region.

Our board takes its responsibilities very seriously, and we celebrate how far we have come in the past five years. Now its time for us stretch our giving goals and expand our support for the mission and goals of the college, said Yvette Eastham, executive director of the HCC Foundation.
