HCC and Gateway Medical Center to be a feature of White House Community College to Career bus tour in Lexington on Thursday

Hopkinsville Community College (HCC) administrators announced today that the college would be one of five Kentucky Community and Technical Colleges to be featured as part of the White Houses "Community College to Career" bus tour conducted by the wife of Vice President Joe Biden, Dr. Jill Biden and U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis.

The Kentucky stop will be at 8:15 am EST, Thursday, February 23 at the Bluegrass Community and Technical College, Leestown Campus in Lexington and will include Kentucky Community and Technical College System workforce programs and students from HCC as well as Bluegrass Community and Technical College, Jefferson Community and Technical College, Somerset Community College and West Kentucky Community and Technical College.

The bus tour will highlight innovative industry partnerships. Participants will share their stories on how the partnership between colleges and businesses has transformed their operations and lives.

HCC nursing graduate, Danny Anderson of Clarksville, Tennessee will share the story of his educational journey from growing up in the inner city of Detroit, Michigan, to serving six years in the military, graduating with an associate in applied science degree in nursing and finally becoming an emergency room Nurse at Clarksvilles Gateway Medical Center.

Clinical Nurse Manager Jeff Watson with Gateways emergency department will also participate to discuss the partnership between HCC and the Hospital. He will outline the mutually beneficial working relationship between the two institutions. Jeff is also an HCC nursing graduate and resides in Dover, Tennessee.

The bus tour will begin on February 22 in Columbus, Ohio and will end on February 24, in Greensboro, North Carolina. Other stops include Dayton, Ohio; Cincinnati, Ohio; Knoxville, Tennessee and Wytheville, Virginia.
