Do you wish to earn your General Education Diploma (GED) or do you need some remediation before you start working toward a college degree? The Work and Learn program may be able to assist you!
Work and Learn represents an expansion of services offered by the Ready to Work program which assists college-enrolled students. Work and Learn provides support to students preparing for the GED and to students needing additional remediation prior to enrolling in college-level classes.
As a participant you will have the opportunity to gain an education while being paid. Federal Work Study (FWS) places you in a temporary job placement that enables you to gain employability skills as well as retention skills, allowing you time to study for your GED. Employment can potentially become permanent.
The Work and Learn case manager works in collaboration with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) and the Kentucky Cabinet for Families and Children to assure that K-TAP recipients are meeting the required criteria needed to help them receive their governmental benefits:
Once you earn your GED, you will receive $250 as a graduation bonus from the Kentucky Cabinet for Families and Children. The Work and Learn case manager will continue to assist you with a smooth transition to postsecondary education.
