Registering for Classes

Our goal is to make registering for classes as easy and convenient as possible. We want to provide you maximum assistance as a first-time student, while helping you learn about the tools necessary to successfully utilize your Student Center and other tools anytime you need them. Prior to using the Student Center for the first time you will first need to set up your KCTCS student computer account using the User Account Center. NOTE: The Student Self-Service link is used to access your Student Center.

Enable Sessions (group orientation, advising and registration)

As a first-time student, you will receive one-on-one registration assistance during a scheduled Enable group orientation, advising and registration session where you will meet college staff, review Student Success Tips, learn how to use your Student Center and register for classes. Enable sessions - required for all first-time, degree-seeking students - are designed to assist new students (and returning students who have previously stopped-out for an extended period of time) transition to college.

Advisor Assignment

Your assigned advisor is viewable in your Student Center . If a single faculty member advises all the students in your program, you will find your advisor's name and contact information in the advisor section of your Student Center. If you are assigned to a team of advisors, you will find your assigned advising team name in the advisor section of your Student Center where you will be able to click and view the contact information of all the advisors assigned to you. HCC has increasingly moved to advising teams to give students more choices and convenience when seeking advisor assistance.

MAP (My Academic Plan)

After your initial class registration, you are encouraged to schedule an appointment with your assigned faculty advisor to complete a MAP (My Academic Plan) which will serve as your guide to completing your educational goal. The MAP is signed by both you and your advisor. Once your MAP is filed with the Advising Center, we will activate your Student Self-Service registration access. Student Self-Service tutorial videos are available for your convenience. Additionally, you may contact a member of the Student Services Team to assist you.

Class Search Tools

To find a list of available classes, you are encouraged to use the KCTCS Class Search feature available in your Student Self-Service account. The KCTCS Class Search feature lists classes real-time and displays courses from all16 KCTCS colleges. You may also use the HCC Class Schedule on our website, but keep in mind it is only updated once every 24 hours. The KCTCS Mobile App is a convenient tool for students for numerous enrollment functions.

We encourage you to enroll in HCC home-based courses whenever possible since our faculty are available to meet with you in-person should you ever need to do so. However, if there is no HCC section of a class you need available you have a tremendous benefit of accessing online course from 15 other KCTCS institutions.

Hopkinsville Campus Registration

Two important registration dates to remember each academic year are March 1 and October 1. Students with MAPs on file may begin registering for Summer Semester and Fall Semester classes on March 1. Students with MAPs on file may begin registering for Spring Semester classes on October 1.

Advising Blitzes

HCC conducts Advising Blitzes during the two-week period prior to the March 1 and October 1 registration periods. Students are required to connect with an assigned advisor via phone, email, or in-person office visit during these two (2) time periods each year. During the twice-per-academic-year advising conversations, your advisor will simply determine if you are "on-track" with your MAP and explore if you are having any issues progressing toward degree completion.

The advising conversations are guided by an Advising Syllabus and an Advising Checklist. Once your advisor is satisfied that you are "on-track" he or she will grant you enrollment permission for the upcoming semester where you will be able to self-serve register for your classes.

The Fort Campbell Campus maintains a different registration schedule and is described in the section below.
