It is our pleasure to welcome you to Hopkinsville Communitiy College for the Great American Eclipse Monday, August 21! We are honored to welcome active duty Astronaut Stephen G. Bowen to campus. He is a veteran of three spaceflights, STS-126 in 2008, STS 132 in 2010 and STS-133 in 2011. He is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. We also are happy to welcome Franklin Smith of Toronto to the college. He holds the B.Sc. degree in Astronomy and Physics from the University of Toronto and an MBA from York University.  Additionally, Professors Chad Howard (Jefferson Community and Technical College), John Scott Miller (Maysville Community and Technical College) and Garrison Turner (Big Sandy Community and Technical College) will offer the following presentations before and after the eclipse:

As a guest of HCC, you’ll have access to concessions, eclipse merchandise, indoor restrooms, air conditioned facilities, a variety of educational opportunities and an HCC Student Research Team satellite balloon launch into near space! Refer to the satellite view of the campus with additional information.

HCC will be open on eclipse day from 7:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. HCC will offer the ticket holding group an assigned campus lawn viewing area along with a paved parking lot space for vehicles having up to 4 wheels. Guest must present an EventBrite parking pass to enter campus.

HCC is offering a commemorative t-shirt on sale for $20 at the bookstore on the day of the event. Our shirts can be ordered prior to eclipse day by phone at (270) 707-3920 and shipped UPS ground for a $7.50 charge.

HCC's bookstore will also have eclipse glasses and a variety of eclipse themed items.

Visitor Conduct
HCC is a smoke and tobacco-free campus. Alcohol is not permitted on campus. Obscene language and actions will not be tolerated. Clothing with any offensive or obscene material will result in denial of admission to campus or if already on grounds, possible confiscation and/or ejection. Shirt, shorts and shoes are required during your visit on our campus. No grills (gas or charcoal) are allowed on campus.

Participants’ Release:
By purchasing a ticket for viewing space, your group releases from liability and waive rights to sue Hopkinsville Community College and the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS), their employees, officers, volunteers and agents (collectively “System”) from any and all claims, including claims of the System’s negligence, resulting in any physical injury, illness (including death) or economic loss I may suffer or which may result from my participation in this Activity, travel to and from the Activity, or any events incidental to this Activity. 

I agree to hold the System harmless from any and all claims, loss or damage to my personal property, liabilities and costs, including attorney’s fees, as a result of my participation in this Activity, including travel to and from the Activity or any events incidental to this Activity. If the System incurs any of these types of expenses, I agree to reimburse the System.

If I need medical treatment as a result of my participation in this Activity, travel to and from the Activity or any events incidental to this Activity, I agree to be financially responsible for any costs incurred as a result of such treatment. I am aware that the System does not provide health insurance for me and that I should carry my own health insurance.

All minor children under the age of 18 should be supervised by and are the responsibility of their legal parent or guardian.

All sales are final. Tickets are sold through eventbrite and are non-refundable.
