Project Industrial Talent Enhancement Model (ITEM) is HCC's US Department of Labor community-based job training grant which features a synergistic, regional approach that brings together numerous key partners to address capacity building of manufacturers' critical needs in the 18-county area of western Kentucky and Montgomery County, Tennessee. ITEM training activities incorporate flexible, easily accessible, web-based training systems with accelerated and targeted face-to-face instruction. Hands-on laboratory access is available in ITEM's multi-discipline, flexible-hour lab. ITEM also has a mobile training unit that is available to use on location at regional industries and schools. ITEM increases skills of the current and future workforce to the level required by regional industries. To build a future workforce pipeline for the region's manufacturing industry, ITEM has implemented a unique mentoring program with manufacturing employees mentoring public school students in grades 6 through 12. HCC has partnered with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Western Kentucky on this part of the program.
