Welcome to the Information Technology (IT) Department.  We're the people, often behind the scenes, who keep HCC's computers, projectors, printers, telephones and many other technology resources available for our users. Department Overview

The Information Technology (IT) Department at Hopkinsville Community College (HCC) is a six person department.  We support HCC technology users with computer hardware and software, projectors, printers, telephones and other technology resources. We also assist technology users in establishing, maintaining and successfully using technology resources.  Our office is located on the second floor of the Administration Building on the Hopkinsville campus.

Contacting the Information Technology Department Help Desk

The Information Technology offices are located on the second floor of the Administration Building on the Hopkinsville Campus (ADM 218-219).  Our support hours are: 

7:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday

The IT Help Desk telephone number is: (270) 707-3770.  The Help Desk is staffed during the department's hours of operation (see above). Voicemail is also available if Help Desk personnel are not able to take your call immediately.  You may also reach us by email using the appropriate Contact Us link below.

Network Access

Students and employees have access to many KCTCS and HCC network resources via a user name and password.  These resources include email, Self Service for students and employees, Blackboard, campus computers and other campus and KCTCS resources. A brief description of these common resources follows. 

Overview of Common Resources

Email - Students, staff and faculty are provided a KCTCS email address.  KCTCS email is an official method of communication and serves as an important communication tool for on campus activities and academic deadlines. IMPORTANT NOTE:  You will NEVER receive a communication (email, telephone call, text message, etc.) from KCTCS or Hopkinsville Community College requesting your password - for ANY reason.  Any communications requesting this information (aka phishing) is an effort to gain unauthorized access to confidential information and should not be answered.

Student Self-Service - Using student self-service, students can:  1) register for classes, 2) check financial aid status/awards, 3) view course grades and unofficial KCTCS transcript, 4) find academic advisor contact information 5) view account summary and make tuition payments, 6) receive requests for information from the Financial Aid Office, Admissions and Records Office or the Business Affairs Office.

Blackboard - Blackboard is an online learning resource available for all HCC classes, regardless of education delivery method (online or face-to-face courses).  Blackboard provides many tools for enhanced learning including collaboration, test/exam delivery, classroom assignment notifications and submissions. Network Security

The sharing of network credentials is explicitly against HCC and KCTCS policy.  User accounts are to only be used by the individual to whom it has been assigned.  All users of technology are obligated to follow the PDF icon HCC Responsible Use Policy  and the KCTCS Responsible Use Policy. KCTCS and HCC are also committed to stop illegal downloading via the college/system network, in part by having the ability to monitor user network activity.

Passwords

KCTCS network credentials for students expire every 180 days. Users are notified of impending password expirations prior to the password actually expiring.  

The KCTCS User Account Center stores your information securely and provides access to your information online, 24/7.  At the KCTCS User Account Center you will be able to activate your account by creating your User Profile, access your KCTCS user name, KCTCS ID and other information and reset your password.  PDF icon User Account Center Guide  Students experiencing problems using the User Account Center may contact the IT Department during normal hours of operation at 270-707-3770, or the Blackboard Student Services Help Desk at 866-590-9238 for assistance. 

Students must use their student ID number to utilize the password reset tool.  Students who do not know their student ID number must present in person to the Admissions & Records Department to obtain this information.  Employees who have allowed their passwords to expire must contact the Information Technology Help Desk for assistance.  IMPORTANT NOTE:  You will NEVER receive a communication (email, telephone call, text message, etc.) from KCTCS or Hopkinsville Community College requesting your password - for ANY reason.  Any communications requesting this information (aka phishing) is an effort to gain unauthorized access to confidential information and should not be answered.

Password guidelines:  KCTCS requires complex passwords with the following criteria:

  • Passwords must be at least eight characters long (can be longer).
  • Passwords must contain at least one upper case letter, one lower case letter and at least one number.
  • Passwords cannot contain any part of the account holder's name.
  • Passwords must be unique to the previous five passwords used for the account.
  • Sample complex passwords:  Il0ve2Sh0p; 0nceUp0nAT1me; DiamondG1rl

Students and employees may contact the IT Help Desk for assistance with password resets. To receive password reset assistance, you must have your student/employee ID number.

Printing

Students may print a pre-set number of copies per semester.  Page limits are based on reasonable and expected printing needs for a student during a semester.  Students exceeding their print limit will be required to pay for additional printing. Students can purchase additional copies at the Hopkinsville campus from the Library Circulation Desk, located in the Library, or the Business Office clerk located on the first floor of the Administration Building.  Additional printing can be purchased at the Fort Campbell Campus from the Business Affairs representative, located in the HCC Administrative Offices at FTC.  All printing activities occurring on campus count toward the semester printing limit.

Wireless Internet Access

The Hopkinsville campus has a limited number of guest wireless internet hot spots.  The PDF icon KCTCS and PDF icon HCC Responsible Use policies extend to computing activities conducted using the guest wireless network. Users connecting to this wireless network do so at their own risk.  Hot spots are available at the HCC Library, the Purple Cat Café; and in front of the HCC Bookstore.

Students and employees of KCTCS/HCC may purchase a variety of software titles at discounted prices. Click the paragraph heading above to learn more about this program. Account authentication is required for software purchases.

SNAP

(Safety Notification Alert Process) - is the KCTCS/HCC emergency notification system. Enrollment in SNAP is voluntary, however students, employees and college constituents are urged to sign up to receive campus-related voice, email or text message alerts.  Click the link "Emergency Notification" at the bottom (footer) of this page to begin the enrollment process, or see the SNAP sign up ad on the HCC homepage.  Enroll today!
